I guess it’s telling that I learned about Steve’s passing not through TV or a regular news website, but through Daring Fireball. I’m interested in the digital industries, I’ve been convinced of Apple products, I’ve been a fan of their attitude.
I’m sadder than I expected to be. I never met Steve and I’m not sure if I would have liked him if I had, but today I realized that I do care about him as a person. Not for Apple’s sake—I’m quite confident that they will be okay for years to come. I’m saddened by the fact that Steve’s life was short compared to how long he should have lived. I would have wished for him to have more time to spend with friends and family after his stepping down from the CEO position.
Today, you can read about Steve’s impact on the world almost anywhere. I wish he could see the flowers, notes, and apples in front of Apple Stores worldwide.
His impact on my life is simple. He realized my childhood dreams. He made science fiction a reality.
Thank you, Steve.
