In the organizational context, commitment of employees usually consists of three sub-factors. Affective Commitment is the "emotional attachment to the organization such that the strongly committed individual identifies with, is involved in, and enjoys membership in, the organization" (Allen et al. 1990).

Continuance Commitment refers to the avoidance of costs that are incurred by leaving the organization. Normative Commitment describes the feeling of responsibility to the organization that employees develop based on their values.
